Immunology Department at FCDC
This department checks how well the body’s immune system is working and helps diagnose many diseases, including infections, allergies, hormone problems, and autoimmune diseases (where the body attacks itself). It is managed by expert pathologists and skilled lab staff.
How They Ensure Accuracy
All abnormal test results are double-checked before they are reported.
Tests are done in groups (batches), and each group includes special control samples to make sure the results are correct.
External checks are also done every month to maintain high-quality standards.
A pathologist reviews the controls to make sure everything is working properly.
Urgent results can be provided quickly on request.
Special Equipment Used
Blue Diver Instrument – an advanced machine from Belgium that performs autoimmune tests.
It’s connected to a computer system to avoid typing mistakes and improve accuracy.
Autoimmune tests are done every day.
Other high-tech machines used: IDS, Alegria, and Diasorin.
Types of Tests Done
These tests help check if the immune system is attacking the body’s own organs. Some examples include:
ANA (Antinuclear Antibodies) – to detect diseases like lupus
Liver and Kidney autoantibodies
Anti-dsDNA, Anti-histone – specific to autoimmune diseases
Celiac Disease antibodies (IgA, IgG)
Anti-GBM & ANCA – for kidney and blood vessel inflammation
Autoimmune Gastritis Profile – for stomach-related autoimmune conditions
These tests check if your body has been infected or exposed to certain germs (bacteria or viruses), or if it has developed immunity:
Dengue tests (NS1, IgG, IgM)
Tuberculosis tests (T-Spot TB, Quantiferon TB Gold)
Brucella, Hepatitis D (HDV IgM)
HIV, Measles, Mumps, Herpes (HSV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) antibodies
H.pylori antibody and stool antigen – to check for stomach infection
Calprotectin – shows gut inflammation
Pancreatic Elastase – checks pancreatic function
These check hormone levels related to growth, fertility, and other functions:
Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) – fertility marker
17 OH Progesterone – hormone balance
Aldosterone & Renin – related to blood pressure and salt balance
Growth Hormone & IGF-1 – related to children’s growth
Insulin, Anti-insulin antibodies – related to diabetes
Beta-2 Microglobulin – immune system activity
Anti-sperm antibody – related to male infertility
TPHA – used for diagnosing syphilis
Beta-2 Glycoprotein & Anticardiolipin antibodies – related to blood clotting problems
In Short
The Immunology department helps find out:
If your immune system is working properly
If you have infections, autoimmune diseases, or hormone issues
If you have allergies or inflammation in organs like the gut or pancreas
It uses advanced machines and skilled staff to give accurate and timely results.
